10/18 Budapest, Hungary. My first time here in many years,
and of course it's changed immensely. I hadn't been bothering with
tourist-type pictures up 'til now, but it had to be done in this
beautiful old city. Sorry for the extra bandwidth, but I've
included a few of those.
The gig was great. We were very well received and treated like
honored guests by the local promoters. Up 'til now on the tour,
I'd been using the same rented keyboard, interfaced with my own rack of
synth modules. That free ride ended when we left Italy and Switzerland.
The 88-key controller wouldn't interface with my stuff, so I just played
it direct with the self-contained wimpy piano sound. In the end,
it didn't matter. The band grooved and the crowd loved it.

These all look like postcards! The shot above I took from the band bus crossing the river to the
gig. I'm sorry I wasn't able to get the same shot at night.
All lit up, with that castle in the upper left .... unbelievable!!
Gorgeous!! |

I'm not sure who all those warrior type statue guys are -
Hungarian kings maybe? |

Spotted this guy in the square playing Gypsy fiddle stuff for tourist
coins. |
Then he got a phone call and took a break.
You gotta love it! |

Taking a walk around town, Jesse spotted a junky antique store
with lots of weird LP records, one of Jesse's passions. He
bought a pile of them. |
We hadn't even done the gig yet and there were posters plastered
all over the Tony Levin Band posters. It's a jungle out there! |
 |
The club we played was actually a boat, with a great restaurant
upstairs and a large performance venue downstairs. The 'green
room' was part of the ship's engine room. Of course we joked
a lot about where the club would be when we finished the gig. |
The crowd shots are the most fun, and this was a
great bunch. For the first time on the tour, they got us to
come out for 2nd encores. We had already
played everything in the book and they wanted more. So we did a repeat of
Black Dog, and the crowd loved it. Got lots of audience
shots, including two kids right in front of me - (no
earplugs ... not a good thing) - who were really digging the show.
At the end, I autographed my set list and gave it to them.
(They usually get swiped off the stage anyway.) Tony had a major fan right in front of him for the
whole show who brought a bass and a Stick and played along with the
band, changing instruments when Tony did. (Fortunately he
didn't have an amp!) Then somebody started waving a great Southpark image of Tony. |

We pause in the Barbershop Quartet to shoot the crowd. |
